Count me among those who has gotten a lot out of reading the Amber RPG but has never managed to run/play it.

Thanks for writing about Amber. Not enough people know about it and I agree that even if you don't play, its educational. I never ran a game, but I did get to play a bunch of times. I missed the dynamics of rolling, but once everyone got used to playing, it was a smooth gaming experience.
